Board of Directors
The Board of Directors are appointed by the Corporate Members and include Sisters from our Sponsoring Congregations, and healthcare and business leaders. Together, they are responsible for approving major decisions affecting our health care ministry, such as long-range strategic plans, the allocation of capital, joint ventures, and major acquisitions and sales.
Andrew C. Agwunobi is chief executive officer of Providence Health Care in Spokane, Washington. He previously served as Secretary of the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration and has held several executive positions with hospitals and health systems in Georgia and California.

Jarrett Anderson, Esq., is the CHW Board Chair and has been a private practitioner primarily engaged in litigation with the law offices of Melby & Anderson LLP since 1964. He has served on the Board of Trustees for the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the Los Angeles County Bar Library.

Sheila Browne, RSM is a member of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas West Midwest Community and previously served as President of the Sisters of Mercy Auburn Regional Community. Sister Sheila also ministered as an elementary school teacher and administrator, and served on numerous boards and committees.

Judy Cannon, RSM is a member of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas West Midwest Leadership Team. In the past she served on the CHW board and staff with CHW as Director of Social Justice. She has also served on the leadership team for the Burlingame regional community.

Morgan Clayton is the President/Founder of Tel-Tec Security Systems, Inc. which provides security services to 37 cities in California. Mr. Clayton is a member of many local civic, social, governmental and business-related agencies.

Caretha Coleman has significant early stage investment, organizational development, and operational experience. For the past 15 years, as a principal in Coleman Consulting, Caretha has focused her practice on working with start-ups and early stage ventures.

Lloyd H. Dean is the President/Chief Executive Officer for Catholic Healthcare West. With over 20 years in healthcare operations and leadership experience, Mr. Dean is responsible for overall management, strategy and direction of CHW's hospitals, ancillary services, home health care and medical group foundations.

Mark DeMichele is the Chairman and CEO of Urban Realty Partners, LLC, which develops high quality office buildings in Arizona and California. He is the former President and CEO of Arizona Public Service Company, an electric utility, and continues to serve the organization as a member of their Board of Directors.

Thomas L. Garthwaite, MD is executive vice president and chief medical officer of Catholic Health East. He previously served as director and chief medical officer of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services and as undersecretary for health with the VA in Washington, D.C.

James M. Givens is retired from a career in investment counseling that spanned over 35 years. Prior to retirement, Jim served in executive leadership roles for Cramblit & Carney, CMB Investment Counselors, Transamerica Investment Management, and Farmers Insurance Group.

Tessie Guillermo is the CHW Board Vice Chair and is the President and CEO for ZeroDivide, a foundation that invests in community enterprises that leverage technology to benefit people in low-income and other underserved communities.

Peter G. Hanelt, CPA has served as CEO, COO and CFO for numerous consumer goods companies with manufacturing, importing, wholesaling and retailing operations. Mr. Hanelt has a proven international business record in achieving outstanding financial results in difficult turnaround and restructuring situations.

Lillian Anne Healy, CCVI is currently the Congregational Leader of the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word of Houston, Texas. Prior to her leadership roles with the congregation, Sister Lillian Anne has served in chaplaincy, spiritual care and counseling positions at hospitals in Texas and Oklahoma.

Rodney F. Hochman, MD is chief executive officer of Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, and earlier served in a number of positions with Sentara Healthcare in Norfolk, Va., including executive vice president. Earlier, he served as senior executive officer of Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati.

Kenneth Mills, MD is currently President of the Medical Staff at St. Mary's Medical Center in San Francisco, California, and is a board-certified physician specializing in internal medicine. He has been on the hospital's Board of Directors since 1992, and is a leader in the medical community for treating HIV/AIDS.

Patricia Rayburn, OSF is the First Councilor of the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity in Redwood City, California. Sr. Patricia previously served on the leadership team for her community from l985-1993 and 1997-2001, and she has been a member of her congregation for 35 years.

Judy Rimbey, OP is the CHW Corporate Members Chair and is General Councilor-Administrator of the Adrian Dominican Sisters, following a ten-year career with CHW. At CHW she served in the Internal Audit department, as Manager of Community Grants and Investments, and as Director of Community Benefit Initiatives.

Patricia Simpson, OP is CHW Board Secretary and is the Prioress General of the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael, California. Prior to this leadership role for the congregation, she held leadership positions with the Diocese of Sacramento, and was an elementary school administrator for nearly 15 years.
