Eligibility
Modern medicine is doing more than ever
before to prevent diseases and their complications, and now
Medicare is covering more of the medical care that can help you
stay well. Medicare covers preventive screenings and new options to
prevent the complications of chronic diseases. Starting January 1,
2006, Medicare will provide dependable prescription drug coverage
that will make it easier for everyone with Medicare to pay for the
drugs they need to stay healthy.

Prescription Drug Coverage
Medicare recipients are now eligible for
prescription drug coverage - regardless of income, resources,
health status, or current prescription expenses.
Like other prescription insurance plans, if
you choose to enroll in one of Medicare's prescription drug
programs, you will pay a monthly premium, which varies by plan, and
a yearly deductible (no more than $250 in 2006). You will also pay
a part of the cost of your prescriptions, including a co-payment or
co-insurance.
If you have limited income and resources, you
may qualify for extra financial assistance, and you may not have to
pay a premium or a deductible.
You may sign up for the Medicare prescription
drug program until May 15, 2006. If you are eligible for the
prescription drug program and don't sign up by May 15, 2006,
additional charges may apply. Your next opportunity to enroll is
from November 15, 2006 to December 31, 2006.
