At Catholic Healthcare West we believe that health cannot be defined simply as the absence of disease.  Health is a combination of many things - where we live, income, education, and social support structures.

Our public health work is therefore based on the overall picture of health.  We are daily developing partnerships with other non-profits who share our goals, and we are advocating for policies that improve the health of whole populations equally.

Just as we are engaged in a relentless pursuit of excellence in our patient care settings, so too are we applying a degree of accountability for excellence in our public health initiatives.

One way we have accomplished this is with our groundbreaking Community Need Index. With this one-of-a-kind tool, we can now pinpoint the neighborhoods with significant barriers to healthcare access nationwide.
