In 1910, four Sisters of Mercy arrived in Bakersfield to operate the hospital known then as St. Clair Hospital, originally a doctor's home. In 1913 the building was literally moved to its current location and renamed Mercy Hospital. The hospital's centers of excellence include the Florence R. Wheeler Cancer Center, and the hospital is known for its bariatrics program and urology services.
