Hospital President:
David Dunham
Profile:
In 1921 members of the Merced community began raising funds to build a hospital that would serve the rural population of Merced. The twenty-bed hospital admitted its first patient in November 1923 under the name Mercy Hospital. The Dominican Sisters of Kenosha, Wisconsin, took over operation of the facility in 1949, renaming the facility Mater Misericordiae. In 2001 the hospital assumed the lease of Sutter Merced Medical Center and formed a bi-campus facility. Today, the hospitals are known for the Mercy Cancer Center, the Mercy Surgical and Diagnostic Center, and their obstetric services and children's unit.
