Sheila Browne, RSM
Sisters of Mercy of the Americas West Midwest Community
Sister Sheila Browne is a member of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas West Midwest Community. Sister Sheila previously served as President of the Sisters of Mercy Auburn Regional Community. The Sisters of Mercy were founded in 1831 by Mother Catherine McAuley in Dublin, Ireland, as a community of women to care for those suffering from poverty, hunger and lack of shelter. Since 1857, the Mercy Sisters have served the greater Sacramento area through education, health care, housing and prison ministries.
Prior to her leadership roles with the Auburn Regional Community, Sister Sheila ministered as an elementary school teacher and administrator from 1973 to 1990. During that time, she also served on a number of boards and committees.
Sr. Sheila holds a BA in History from Dominican College in San Rafael, California, a Life Credential (K-9) from St. Mary's College in Moraga, California, and an MA in Administration from the University of San Francisco.
