Elizabeth Shih

SVP/Chief Administrative Officer

With over 28 years of experience in system integration and operations, Ms. Shih supports the President/CEO in governance relations and supports the senior leadership in the ongoing operations of the organization, corporate real estate and management of the San Francisco Corporate Office. In her first year of service, Ms. Shih facilitated the smooth transition of CHW from a 10-region organization to a four-division structure focusing on operations at the local hospital and community level. She also served as interim senior vice president for human resources, and oversaw the transition of seven facilities from CHW. When she joined CHW in January 2001, Ms. Shih brought a strong background in operations, knowledge of the California health care landscape, experience in the full continuum of care, and a commitment to building effective organizational relationships.

Ms. Shih previously served as the executive vice president for the Eastern Division for Sutter Health in Sacramento, where she was responsible for the operations of 16 acute care hospitals in Northern California and Hawaii. Ms. Shih held key senior leadership positions involving mergers, acquisitions, physician contracting, governance, acute and non acute operations, consolidation and integration processes, finance, human resources, procurement, construction, compliance and information technology. At Sutter Health, Ms. Shih worked to increase communication and enhance accountability while striving to balance "systemness" with local autonomy and creativity.

Ms. Shih has been a featured speaker at various professional conferences and university-sponsored workshops in the areas of managed care, transitions, Y2K and system integration. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master's of Social Work degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
